Play the hand you were dealt like it’s the hand you actually wanted.

One of the keys to success is learning to play the hand you were dealt like it’s the hand you actually wanted.
I’ve thought about that a lot over the years.
When I was younger, there were parts of my story I didn’t love. Some rejection. Some doors closing. Some moments where it felt like other people had a much better starting point.
For a long time I caught myself wishing the cards were different.
Different opportunities.
Different circumstances.
Different experiences.
But eventually I realized something. Nobody wins by staring at the cards they wish they had.
At some point you have to look down at the hand in front of you and decide, “Alright…how do I play this well?”
For me, the things that once felt like disadvantages ended up shaping the way I lead, the way I speak, and the way I connect with people. The rejection made me more empathetic. The setbacks made me more resilient. The winding path gave me stories that actually help people.
Turns out the hand I spent years wishing away was the exact hand that prepared me for the work I get to do today.
So if you’re in a season where things didn’t go the way you hoped, don’t waste too much energy wishing for different cards.
Play the hand you have.
Play it with courage.
Play it with creativity.
Play it like it was the hand you wanted all along.
You might be surprised how often that’s the hand that wins.
