#4: The Thing You’re Avoiding Isn’t the Real Problem

Last week, I found myself staring at a list of things I didn’t want to do. There were a few difficult conversations I had been avoiding, a project I’d been procrastinating on, and a workout I kept telling myself I would get to tomorrow. None of it was impossible. None of it was beyond my ability. I just didn’t feel like doing any of it.

It’s amazing how often we wait for motivation when what we really need is movement. We convince ourselves that we need the right mindset, the right energy, or the right moment before we can begin. But the funny thing is, every time I finally started, I wondered why I had waited so long.

The conversation wasn’t as bad as I had imagined. The work wasn’t as overwhelming as I had built it up to be. The workout wasn’t easy, but I walked away stronger than when I started. The hardest part was never actually doing the thing. The hardest part was getting myself to take that first step.

By the end of the week, I realized something important. The biggest obstacle wasn’t the task in front of me. It was the story I was telling myself before I even began.

We spend so much time trying to convince ourselves we can do something. We replay all the reasons we might fail, all the ways it could be difficult, and all the excuses that make waiting feel easier. Maybe the better goal is to stop focusing so much on what we can do and start building a life around what we did.

Every difficult conversation you’ve been avoiding, every goal you’ve been postponing, and every opportunity you’ve been waiting to feel “ready” for doesn’t require a better version of you. It doesn’t require perfect timing or a sudden burst of confidence. It just needs today’s version of you to take the first step.

So here’s my challenge for this week. Pick one thing you’ve been putting off. Not ten things. Not a complete life overhaul. Just one thing that has been sitting in the back of your mind.

Then do it before tomorrow.

Bet on yourself. Keep the promise you make to yourself. Because every time you follow through, you prove that you are someone you can trust.

You might be surprised by who you become simply because you decided to begin.

Keep the fire burning. 🔥
